A church or chapel most probably stood where the present 14th century, granite church of Norberg stands today. The original building had no tower and a free-standing belfry.
Two severe fires have ravaged the church, one in 1608 and the other in 1727. Almost the entire area east of the village river was destroyed in the second fire which also claimed the church tower and most of what the church owned.
The church has been restored over the years and much of the church’s present style stems from the restoration carried out in 1904 when the arches and walls were decorated in the popular Art Noveau style. A palmette border runs around the entire church and the sanctuary arches’ valances are decorated with angels and lillies. The arch to the sanctuary is filled with white roses and symbols of the four evangelists. The window sills are embellished with roses.
