Kung Karls kyrka, Kungsör

Kungsör
Phone: +46 (0)227-100 26

King Karl XI is perhaps the king that most enjoyed being in Kungsör. He had this church erected for his royal estate, a task that ran from 1690 to 1700. Unfortunately, the King never saw his church finished and when he died in 1697 much of the interior work remained to be completed. To mark the bicentennial of his death in 1897 the large gilded copper crown was mounted on the church dome.

The church was drawn by Nicodemus Tessin Jr. The altar tablet and silver collection by Burchardt Precht and David Klöcker Ehrenstral. The church was opened in 1700 and is an original Baroque church marked by King Karl XI's personal touch. Dome church. The pulpit is from the chapel in the palace Tre Kronor.

Open: The church is open from mid June to mid August. For guided tours, please contact the parish registrar's office at the above number.
