Karbenning’s present church was opened on the first Sunday of Advent in 1845. It replaced the old wooden church that was probably built in 1654. The old church was torn down a few years after the opening of the new church and parts that could be sold were auctioned off, which means that parts of the old church still exist on various village farms. Construction on the new church began in 1839 after discussing the matter since 1796.

The pulpit was moved during a restoration in 1903 to the north wall and a new altar screen depicting the resurrection of Jesus Christ painted by Olle Hjortzberg was purchased. When the pulpit was moved, a new frame was needed for the altar screen and this was designed by the court-appointed architect Agi Lindegren. It is a classic arcade of gilded columns that support a gable end with a Jesus monogram and a triangular Trinity symbol. 

The limestone baptismal font is chiseled in two parts. The cup has ornaments of roses and clover leaves in low relief and has no exist holes. The font is believed to have been chiseled around 1500 and thus considerably older than the first church. It is unknown how it came to be in Karbenning’s church. The baptismal font now has a silver insert bestowed on the church by consul-general Axel Ax:son Johnsson in 1947.
